A conference on pre-harvest food safety practices for the poultry industry will be held in conjunction with the International Poultry Exposition Jan. 25-26.
The North American Meat Processors Association, the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, the National Chicken Council, Auburn University and the University of Georgia will host the two half-day sessions.
Program highlights for the January conference include:
• Updates from both FSIS and the Centers for Disease Control
• Discussion of Salmonella control in primary breeding operations as well as recommended best practices for broilers and young turkeys
• Use of commercial vaccines and autogenous vaccines
• Environmental impacts of on-farm interventions for Salmonella
• Poultry industry concerns and initiatives
• Current trends in antibiotic use
• Industry assessment of Salmonella and Campylobacter on the farm
• Results of pre-harvest industry survey
