U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC) is on his way back to North Carolina after being discharged from George Washington University Hospital, the 6th District representative’s office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Rep. Coble was at the Washington, D.C., hospital from December 13-21 recovering from an upper respiratory illness, which depleted his sodium levels.

Congressman Coble is being transported by medical vehicle to The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro where the 80-year-old representative will undergo in-patient physical therapy. “The physicians at George Washington University Hospital told his family and our office that Rep. Coble is making steady progress in recovering from a severe upper respiratory infection,” said Chief of Staff Ed McDonald. “At Moses Cone, doctors will monitor Congressman Coble’s sodium treatment while he begins a physical therapy program.”

It is unknown at this time how long Rep. Coble will have to remain at Moses Cone while he undergoes in-patient physical therapy.
