Jerry Godwin will retire as president of the Murphy-Brown division of Smithfield Foods Inc., effective July 31, after more than 10 years in the position.

Godwin, 65, was appointed to run the Warsaw, N.C.-based livestock production arm of Smithfield in April 2001. Murphy-Brown brings more that 17 million hogs to market annually through its network of 450 company-owned and 2,500 family farms located in 12 states. Before he took over at Murphy-Brown, Godwin was president of Murphy Farms.

Smithfield also announced that Robert W. Manley IV, the current executive vice president and chief financial officer at Murphy-Brown, will assume the additional post of president once Godwin retires.
