U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan today applauded the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) for its approval of a loan to Siemens Energy, Inc., to support 825 highly-skilledworkers at the company’s Charlotte facility. The $638 million direct loan will finance the sale by Siemens of North Carolina-manufactured gas and steam turbines to Saudi Arabia. Siemens participated in today’s White House Forum on “Insourcing American Jobs.”

In June of last year, Hagan convened an Ex-Im Bank Global Access Forum for Small Business at Siemens in Charlotte with Fred P. Hochberg, Chairman and President of Ex-Im Bank. Hagan organized the forum to help North Carolina businesses learn how to gain a competitive edge in today’s global marketplace. More than 150 representatives from North Carolina businesses participated in the Ex-Im Bank Global Access Forum for Small Business. Hagan and Hochberg will host another forum on February 24 in Greensboro.

“North Carolina jobs are my number one priority. I am so pleased that Siemens, with the support of a loan from the Export-Import Bank of the United States, has chosen Charlotte to manufacture these export products,” said Hagan. “Business owners tell me all the time that they locate in North Carolina because of our outstanding business climate and second-to-none workforce. My four favorite words are 'Made in North Carolina,’ and I will continue working to connect the Export-Import Bank to companies that will bring business and, most importantly, jobs to our state.”

This is the second order being produced by 825 highly-skilled workers at Siemens’ Charlotte, North Carolina facility. The plant was specifically constructed, and the work force was hired, to produce American-made goods to serve markets around the world, from Latin America to the Middle East, and from North America to Asia.

“This order represents a real vote of confidence in our Nation’s workforce,” said Hochberg. “Siemens, a global leader in manufacturing, has chosen to build a plant in the U.S. specifically to produce equipment for export. The skills and productivity of American workers are a big reason why that plant is there, and I’m proud that Ex-Im’s financing helped win this order.”

"The Senator and I hosted a Global Access Small Business Forum in North Carolina once, and we're planning to do another one.  These forums are a great opportunity for small- and mid-size businesses to learn how they can acquire the same competitive advantage that Siemens realized with export financing from Ex-Im Bank," added Hochberg.
