WASHINGTON – This week during The Ag Minute, Chairman Frank Lucas discusses the need for President Obama to make good on last year's promise to rein in regulations that put an unnecessary burden on businesses. The House has passed nearly 30 bills to grow the economy, create jobs, and eliminate burdensome regulations, but right now those bills are stalled in the Senate. Chairman Lucas urges President Obama and the Senate to join the House in its efforts to stimulate the economy.

The transcript is below.
"As President Obama prepares to deliver the State of the Union address tonight, it’s a good time to reflect on what the president promised last year and his progress on that front.

"Last year, he promised to rein in regulations that 'put an unnecessary burden on businesses.'  But, so far he has done little to encourage members of his own party in the Senate to take up this cause.

"In contrast, House Republicans have passed more than two dozen bills to grow our economy, create jobs, and eliminate unnecessary and burdensome regulations.  Those bills are stalled in the Senate because Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid will not bring them to the floor for a vote.

"Two of those bills are particularly important to agriculture.

"H.R. 872 eliminates a redundant permit for the use of pesticides that are already regulated.
"H.R. 1633 ensures farmers and ranchers are not subjected to excessive regulation from the EPA for simply driving a tractor down a dirt road or tilling a field.

"This week the House Agriculture Committee will consider six more bills designed to keep regulators in check.

"It’s a new year and a new opportunity to work together.

"I hope President Obama will make good on last year’s promise and join our efforts in the House to eliminate obstacles to economic growth.  I hope he will urge Senate Democrats to join the cause, too.  The American people are counting on it."

The Ag Minute is Chairman Lucas's weekly radio address that is released from the House Agriculture Committee.
