This week Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) voted for H.R. 1173, a bill that would repeal the Community Living Assistance Services and Support Act (CLASS Act), a provision within Obamacare which authorized a new federal long term health insurance program. The CLASS program was sold as a fiscally self-sustaining program. However, in October the Obama Administration publicly acknowledged that it was fundamentally flawed and financially unsustainable. But even with the Administration’s announcement, the statutory authorization for the program remained on the books, allowing future administrations the option of reviving the program. Jones and his colleagues believe that option should be eliminated by repealing the underlying the law which authorized the program. As a cosponsor of the H.R. 1173, Jones joined all of his Republican colleagues in passing the bill by a vote of 267-159. The bill now goes to the Senate for further consideration.

“The Obama Administration’s massive health care law is simply unaffordable,” said Jones. “I remain firmly committed to do everything I can to repeal it, and this bill to eliminate the CLASS Act is a good start. Now it’s time for the Senate to stop the stalling and join the House in doing what’s right for the American people.”

Congressman Jones voted against Obamacare each time it was considered in the House. He is a cosponsor of every piece of legislation that has been introduced to repeal the massive health care law.
