Filing officially opens volatile election season

Today, the first day to file for elective office in North Carolina, officially opens a volatile N.C. campaign season. Any illusion that the election year primaries would be quiet was dashed over the past few weeks and days as both Gov. Bev Perdue and U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick in surprising moves said they wouldn't run for political office this year.
