Republican small business owner Randy Ramsey today filed paperwork with the State Board of Elections to open his campaign for State Senate District 2. Current incumbent Senator Jean Preston announced recently she would not seek reelection in the district that includes all of Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico counties. Over 25 years ago Ramsey started his boat-building small business, Jarrett Bay Boatworks, in an old tin shed by building a single boat to replace an aging local charter boat. A Down East native, he has served as Chairman of the North Carolina Manufacturers Association and currently is a member of the Board of Trustees of NC State University. He opened his campaign with $132,827 in support of his candidacy.

“I’m running for State Senate because North Carolina’s economy isn’t growing like it should, and quite honestly, as a small businessman, I’m tired of being disappointed by politicians,” stated Ramsey. “For the first time, our children are facing a future that has mortgaged the American Dream for unaccountable, runaway spending. Raising taxes won’t solve our state’s problems but smaller, more accountable government will. It’s time to get back to the basics of doing what’s right for everyday folks who are struggling to make ends meet.”

When not running Jarrett Bay Boatworks, Randy Ramsey devotes much of his life to giving back to his community. He formerly served on the Neuse River Economic Development Council, the Carteret County Economy Development Council, and the Carteret General Hospital Foundation. He currently is a member of the Board of Trustees for NC State University and President of the University’s Student Aid Association, which has over 20,000 members and raises money for scholarships and school facilities. A founding Director of Sound Bank, Ramsey previously served as President of the Board for the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament and continues to serve on its Board as well as the Executive Board of Directors of the Crystal Coast Hospice House. He has one grown son, Alan, and lives in Beaufort, NC with his wife Tiffany.
