The N.C. Agricultural Development and Farm Land Preservation Trust Fund will host two workshops in March for local governments interested in protecting agricultural lands.

The Voluntary Agricultural District workshops are for agricultural advisory board members, county representatives, program staff, farmers and anyone responsible for, or interested in, developing and administering voluntary and enhanced voluntary agricultural plans in their communities.

Workshops will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at the Wilson County Center in Wilson and Friday, March 23, at the Moore County Center in Carthage. A third workshop is being planned for the western part of the state later in the spring.

Topics covered at the workshops include state and federal program incentives for participation, farmland protection plan development, program signage on rights of way and private property, farmland impact assessment for transportation planning, legislative updates on laws impacting voluntary agricultural district programs and estate tax changes.

Register for the free workshops at www.ncadfp.org/vadprogram.htm.

The event is co-sponsored by the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service, N.C. Farm Bureau, N.C. State Grange and the N.C. Department of Transportation. AgCarolina Financial is sponsoring lunch at the meeting in Wilson.
