USDA raised its fiscal 2012 forecasts for pork and poultry exports in both volume and dollar value, but left its beef export projections unchanged from its previous forecasts made in November 2011.

In its quarterly Outlook for U.S. Agricultural Trade report, USDA projected pork exports at 1.8 million metric tons valued at $5.5 billion, compared to the November forecast of 1.7 million metric tons valued at $5.4 billion. Greater volume exports to Asia drove the increase. In 2011, pork exports totaled 1.645 million metric tons valued at $4.556 billion.

Broiler meat exports are now forecast at 3.3 million metric tons valued at $3.8 billion, up from 3.1 million metric tons valued at $3.6 billion in November. Increased poultry export expectations were attributed to escalating Asian demand and higher unit values. In 2011 broiler meat exports totaled 3.2 million metric tons valued at $3.5 billion.

USDA left its fiscal 2012 beef and veal export forecast at 900,000 metric tons valued at $4.9 billion. In 2011 beef and veal exports totaled 910,000 metric tons valued at $4.5 billion.

Beef and pork variety meat exports were forecast at 900,000 metric tons valued at $1.3 billion, also unchanged from the November report. In 2011 exports totaled 824,000 metric tons valued at $1.2 billion.
