Elected positions being vacated by departing incumbents have attracted lots of candidates to run in the first round of North Carolina's campaigns this year. Former U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge will become the 12th person seeking to succeed Gov. Beverly Perdue when he files his candidacy papers Wednesday morning.
