Source: PRESS RELEASE, 3/7/12
Gov. Bev Perdue wants to hear from the public regarding three candidates to serve as a superior court judge in Harnett and Lee counties.
The three names for the vacancy in the two counties, formally known as Judicial District 11A, were submitted to the Governor by the Judicial Nominating Commission. Governor Perdue established the Commission last year in Executive Order 86 to take politics out of judicial appointments and to help her in naming new judges.
The 18-member commission reviews applications when vacancies occur on the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, or Superior Court. The commission, an even mix of lawyers and non-lawyers, nominates the three candidates it deems most qualified. The Governor chooses from that list.
The Commission has submitted the following three candidates (listed in alphabetical order) to Governor Perdue regarding the vacancy in District 11A:
C. Winston Gilchrist David F. McRae April H. Phillips
Members of the public are encouraged to contact Governor Perdue’s Legal Counsel’s Office at (919) 715-1455 or at judicialnominatingcommission@nc.gov to provide input on these three candidates.
