USDA is proposing a rule that would expand the Cattlemen’s Beef Board’s contracting authority to include more beef industry groups.

The original congressional order requires the Beef Board to contract checkoff-funded initiatives only to national, nonprofit beef industry organizations that already had been established in 1986, when the rule took effect. The amended rule would change the date requirement and allow those that “have been active and ongoing for at least two years.”

CBB oversees the beef checkoff, both of which are managed by USDA.

The rule was published earlier this month in the Federal Register.

Comments are due by May 1 and may be submitted online. To read and comment on the rule, click here.
