China Ming Yang Wind Power Group Limited, a leading wind turbine manufacturer in China, today announced the opening of its North American research and development center on the Centennial Campus of N.C. State University.

Dr. Shu Ching Quek, president of Ming Yang Wind Power USA Inc., will head up operations at the facility, which will focus the company’s efforts to further enhance energy output and lower the cost of electricity by improving the manufacture and operation systems of offshore wind turbines.

"We chose NCSU Centennial Campus as the location of our new research and development center to leverage the multi-disciplinary talent pool and provide a conducive environment for more innovations in this field," said Dr. Quek.

"We welcome Ming Yang Wind Power to North Carolina. As the first industrial large scale wind turbine research and development facility in the state, we look forward to a successful partnership in harnessing North Carolina's wind power potential," said Gov. Bev Perdue in a Ming Yang press release.

Ming Yang selected North Carolina in part because the state has the best offshore wind resources on the East Coast. Optimizing turbine to farm level systems through advanced manufacturing and improving the reliability of the wind turbine generator, which will reduce operating and maintenance costs, will enable Ming Yang to increase efficiency and lower energy costs. The modular technology being developed will likely be applied to the rest of Ming Yang's product line, which in turn is expected to make its wind turbines internationally competitive as well as strengthen the company’s ability to provide innovative and customizable wind power solutions in the United States and around the world.

"We are very thankful for the warm welcome and logistical support we've received from N.C. State University, the N.C. Solar Center and the N.C. Department of Commerce. We look forward to a great partnership in the years ahead," stated Dr. Quek.
