Gov. Perdue appoints Gilchrist to Superior Court bench in Harnett and Lee counties

Gov. Bev Perdue has appointed C. Winston Gilchrist to the Superior Court bench for the 11A Judicial District, which covers Harnett and Lee Counties. He will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Frank Lanier.

“Winston has served with distinction as a District Court judge and is highly regarded throughout the district,” Gov. Perdue said. “His keen intellect and thoughtful decision-making will be a valuable addition to the Superior Court bench in North Carolina.”

Gilchrist has served as a District Court judge since 2010. Prior to that, he worked in private practice and as an assistant federal public defender. He was elected President of the Harnett County Bar Association in 2001 and served as Lillington Town Attorney for twelve years. He graduated cum laude from the University of North Carolina School of Law and summa cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received his undergraduate degree. He is a native of Harnett County.
