Senator Hagan proudly supported the federal highway funding bill this week, which includes $2.12 billion over two years for key transportation projects in North Carolina. The bill ensures that at least 95 percent of our state’s payments into the Highway Trust Fund come back to North Carolina to improve our roads, bridges and mass transit – projects that will create jobs in the state.

Thursday, Hagan joined six of her colleagues on the Senate floor in support of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act. The bipartisan bill was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee, but has since been caught up in partisan wrangling on Capitol Hill. In her speech, Hagan urged Congress to take swift action on the reauthorization, which includes her Violence Against Women Health Initiative.

During an “American Furniture, American Design” press conference on Capitol Hill Tuesday, Hagan touted North Carolina’s renowned furniture industry. She joined House Beautiful magazine to highlight the importance of North Carolina-made and American-made furniture, in particular, how the furniture industry supports jobs in our state.

Also this week, Hagan encouraged eligible North Carolina farmers to file claims in the Black Farmers Discrimination Litigation Settlement with the US Department of Agriculture. Since coming to the Senate, Hagan has worked to bring justice to 4,000 African-American farmers in North Carolina and 75,000 nationwide. She introduced legislation to fund the settlement with then Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA). Meetings are being held in North Carolina and across the country to assist plaintiffs in completing their claims.
