NMA, NAMP combination to become North American Meat Association

The combination of the National Meat Association and the North American Meat Processors Association will be a new organization, named the North American Meat Association, the groups announced at NAMP's management conference in Chicago on Saturday.

NAMA is expected to officially begin operations on July 1. The organization will maintain offices in Reston, Va. and Oakland, Calif. It will start off with more than 700 member companies in the United States, Canada, Mexico and other countries.

NAMA announced its new slate of officers for the upcoming year, each of which is a representative of one or the other original association. They include:

Inc., co-vice presidentsJohn Vatri, Cardinal Meat Specialists Inc., Brian Coelho, Central Valley Meat, co-treasurersDon Clift, Preferred Beef Group, Joe Maas, JTM Provisions, co-secretariesThe senior executive staff include CEO Barry Carpenter and executive director Phil Kimball.
