Russia ramps up poultry production

Russia increased poultry production by 25 percent, to 268,000 metric tons, in February compared with the same month last year, according to a Bloomberg report citing that country’s Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat).

Production also rose in pork (21 percent, 70,700 metric tons) and beef (5.4 percent, 12,500) in February, Rosstat told Bloomberg.

Production of all meats, excluding poultry, rose 13 percent to 97,900 tons, the service said.

On a live-weight basis, Russia produced 800,000 tons of cattle and poultry, up 9.8 percent.

Russia’s cattle supply inched up 0.8 percent to 20.4 million head by the end of February, compared to numbers from the same month last year. Hog numbers increased 1.3 percent to 17.8 million.
