Nancy Keith, who has directed North Carolina Cooperative Extension programs in Yadkin County since 2007, has been named Cooperative Extension director in Iredell County.

Keith’s appointment as Iredell extension director was announced by Sheri Schwab, associate director and director of county operations for the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service at North Carolina State University, and Tracy Jackson, Iredell County deputy county manager.

Keith succeeds the late Ken Vaughn, who died in June 2011 at the age of 73 and was serving as Iredell Extension director at the time of his death. Vaughn’s extension career spanned 48 years, including 36 years as Iredell director. Keith’s appointment is effective April 1.

Keith brings 23 years of Cooperative Extension experience to Iredell County. She joined Cooperative Extension as an area specialized dairy agent in Yadkin County in 1989. She was named Yadkin County Extension director in 2007. In addition, she has served as interim Alleghany County director since 2009.
The new Iredell director holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees from N.C. State University. Her master’s is in agriculture, while her bachelor’s degree is in animal science.

“I am extremely excited about Nancy Keith’s appointment as county extension director in Iredell County,” said Clinton McRae, director of Extension’s South Central District, which includes Iredell County. “She is a proven leader with a passion to serve. I am so happy that Nancy will be able to utilize her skills to serve the citizens of her home county. Iredell County Cooperative Extension has a rich history of excellence and professionalism, and Nancy has the skills to carry the torch.”
