After having virtually skipped winter and gone straight to spring – and now having had one of the warmest Marches on record – our wheat here in western Kansas is well on its way to maturing. That may not be a bad thing if we keep getting rain and moderate temperatures through the rest of spring. But according to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, Kan., 2012 could risk turning into a year like 1907 with temperatures dropping below freezing in April following an abnormally warm March.
