Troxler to moderate local food discussion at UNCC Wednesday

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler will moderate a panel discussion focusing on local and sustainable agriculture at UNC-Charlotte. The event, organized by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, is part of the Commissioner’s Speakers Series, which aims to educate college students about the issues facing modern agriculture and today’s farmers.

The panel will consist of farmers, restaurateurs and researchers involved in the local foods movement, including Cassie Parsons, Grateful Growers and Harvest Moon Grille; Roger Lademann and Dean Zoch, UNC-Charlotte Dining Services; Dr. Jeremy Pattison, Kannapolis Research Center; Tommy Porter, 2011 Southeastern Farmer of the Year; and Kelly Slade, Johnson and Wales University.
Wednesday, April 18
4 p.m.

The event is open to the public and admission is free. Wednesday’s session is hosted by the UNC-Charlotte Student Government Association.

The first speaker series was held at N.C. State in 2010. This year, the series has expanded to include two sessions at N.C.
