A jury has awarded seven former ConAgra workers a total of $14.6 million in compensatory damages in a suit they filed against Jacobs Engineering Group for injuries they suffered in an explosion at ConAgra’s Garner, N.C., plant in 2009, according to local media reports.

Court documents revealed jurors last week awarded more than $7.5 million to Leonard Spruill, more than $4.5 million to Anthony Smith, $959,785 to Patricia Crosier, $518,437 to Brenda Brockington, $475,311 to Shelia Lynn, $354,101 to John Hooks and $313,246 to Tammie Lynn, according to local broadcaster WRAL.

The same jury will return in June to consider punitive damages in the case, according to WTVD-TV.
In 2010, ConAgra close the damaged Slim Jim production plant, transferring production to its Troy, Ohio facility and terminating 500 jobs.

The blast killed three workers and injured nearly 40 others.
