FiberFest, a celebration of fiber arts and crafts that is part of the Got to Be N.C. Festival, continues to add to its many offerings. This year’s lineup features a daily theme: Green/Recycling fiber craft activities on Friday, sock-oriented events on Saturday including a sock fashion show, and events focusing on the community spirit of fiber crafts on Meetup Sunday.

There will also be hands-on weaving demonstrations and activities for kids on Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.; a special Montagnard weaving demonstration Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. using a traditional wheel; contests and book readings and signings by well-known authors each day.

Classes are another popular feature of FiberFest and many fill up fast, said organizer Carolyn Beasley.
“We are just amazed at the interest in the classes,” Beasley said. “People can go online and still sign up for classes through May 11.”

A bobbin lace class is being offered for the first time at FiberFest, along with classes on felting, natural dyes, lace spinning, Tunisian crochet, Fair Isle knitting, crocheting, cold process soap making and training for left-handers.

Another first is an alpaca fleece show. Judging will take place Friday, but the fleeces will be available to look at and purchase on Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors will find a record number of vendors selling fiber craft items and tools, yarn, wool and other craft accessories. Beasley said there are 54 vendors along with eight fiber guilds participating in FiberFest.
Raffle tickets benefiting the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy in Pittsboro will be sold during the event.

FiberFest hours are noon to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more on FiberFest, go to www.carolinafiberfest.org.
