HOUSE HIGHLIGHTS

The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5326, the annual appropriations bill for the Departments of Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Act of 2013 by a vote of 247 - 163. The bill cuts spending by 3 percent compared to current levels.


The House also passed legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank by a vote of 330-93. H.R. 2072, the Securing American Jobs Through Exports Act extends the bank's charter through fiscal year 2014 and helps support U.S. exports and job creation.

The House passed H.R. 5652, the Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act by a vote of 218-199. The bill combines the work of six committees (Agiculture, Energy & Commerce, Financial Services, Judiciary, Oversight & Government Reform, and Ways & Means) to address scheduled sequestration cuts. It produces savings of $242 billion over ten years.

SENATE HIGHLIGHTS
The Senate adjourned on Thursday after failing to move forward with legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank (H.R. 2072) and extend the current interest rate on student loans (S.2343).
