McIntyre unveils farm and rural policy agenda

On the 150th birthday of the United States Department of Agriculture, U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre has unveiled his plan of action for farm and Rural America policy. These principles will serve as the foundation for McIntyre’s work on the House Agriculture Committee as the next Farm Bill is written.

Congressman McIntyre, a senior member of the Committee stated, “Farming and agriculture are critical to the economy of North Carolina, and it is vital that we have strong principles and programs in place to make sure that our farmers can compete in the global economy. In addition, it is vital that we do all we can to help our rural towns and small communities grow and thrive. As this Farm Bill is written, I will be working to help North Carolina farmers, families, and communities.”

McIntyre’s Plan for Farm and Rural Policy includes the following key principles:
1. Maintain Strong Farmers’ Safety Net
2. Ensure Effective Crop Insurance Program
3. Keep Tobacco Strong
4. Let Livestock Thrive
5. Give Producers Access to Markets
6. Keep Corn Affordable
7. Get Rid of Burdensome Regulations on the Farm
8. Ensure Strong Rural Development
9. Invest in Promising Renewable Energy Technologies
10. Promote Fairness for Producers and Processors
11. Support Research and Extension
12. Enhance Specialty Crop Competitiveness
