Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) took to the House floor on Thursday evening to call on Congressional leaders to immediately permit the Keystone XL pipeline project in this year’s Surface Transportation Authorization bill. Kissell spoke in support of a measure to instruct House and Senate conference committee members to authorize the pipeline within 30 days.

“It’s time to move this pipeline forward,” said Kissell. “We’ve heard for decades about energy independence, yet we haven’t gotten that. We’ve heard a lot of talk about what the Administration might say, or what Congress might say, but we haven’t heard an opinion for the American working families. Our families are desperate for energy security and pricing stability. This pipeline is a step towards that.”

Earlier this year, Kissell joined Reps. Connie Mack (R-FL) and Denny Rehberg (R-MT) in introducing H.R. 4000, the Energizing America through Employment Act. The bipartisan bill would approve and expedite the pipeline immediately and allow construction to begin on the cross-country effort.

“Politics has gotten in the way of creating jobs right here on our American soil, and we absolutely cannot afford to just sit around and wait for solutions,” added Kissell. “Let’s build the pipeline, put folks to work and end the partisan games that have continued to threaten our economic recovery.
