Over 1,000 hourly wage employees at Pilgrim’s Pride’s Russellville, Ala. Plant voted for representation by the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union, the company confirmed to Meatingplace.

Employees voted 706 to 292 in favor of the union on June 7 and June 8 under a secret ballot election conducted by the National Labor Relations Board.

Scott Varner, manager of the Russellville facility, said that he would immediately recognize the union as an employee representative when it obtained NLRB certification.

Varner said he was committed to work with everyone in the building on the many improvements in safety and efficiency achieved in the previous year. “We will continue working to make our plant an ‘employer of choice’ in the area,” he said in a statement.

Pilgrim’s Pride is owned by JBS USA.
