State Farmers Market celebrates Blueberry Day Thursday, June 14

North Carolina’s blueberry crop will take the spotlight at the State Farmers Market’s annual Blueberry Day Thursday. During the event, visitors can sample free blueberry desserts provided by the State Farmers Market Restaurant, pick up free blueberry recipes and purchase N.C. blueberries from market vendors.

Blueberry Day is sponsored by the N.C. Blueberry Council, the State Farmers Market and the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

North Carolina’s peak blueberry season runs through July. The state is the sixth largest blueberry producer in the nation, with more than 39 million pounds grown locally each year. Most production occurs in the southeastern part of the state. The top five blueberry-producing counties are Bladen, Pender, Sampson, Duplin and Columbus.
