Click Here to see a letter to the Ag Committee led by Congressman McIntyre that requests for a study to be included in the Farm Bill to assess the feasibility of business disruption insurance for poultry producers. The letter has strong North Carolina support with cosigners including Reps. Ellmers, Kissell, Price, and Jones.

The recent bankruptcy of Townsend in our state and its effect on many contract growers in the region shows that North Carolina farmers could greatly benefit from an insurance product to mitigate the risk posed by integrator bankruptcy. We hope Congressman McIntyre’s proposal will lead to improved risk mitigation tools for poultry producers down the road.

The proposal has been endorsed by the National Chicken Council, National Turkey Federation and the North Carolina Poultry Federation.
