Chicken to lead meat production growth, Brazil predicts

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply released forecasts for meat production over the next 10 years, predicting the highest rate of growth for chicken.

Between 2011-12 and 2021-22, the annual growth rate for chicken is forecast at 4.2 percent, ahead of projected growth of 2.1 percent a year for beef and 2.0 percent for pork.

Brazilian consumers are expected to show a growing preference for chicken, with domestic consumption expected to increase by 2.7 percent a year over the decade, ahead of 2.0 percent for beef and 1.8 percent for pork.
