Downy mildew of impatiens is caused by the 'fungus-like' organismPlasmopara obducens. The group of organisms that cause downy mildew diseases are not true fungi- they are more closely related to the well-known plant pathogensPhytophthoraandPythiumthan they are to true fungi.
