Online registration is now open for North Carolina State University’s 2012 Turfgrass Field Day, an annual event at which N.C. State experts discuss the latest turf research.

This year’s field day is Aug. 8 at the Lake Wheeler Road Turfgrass Research Lab along Lake Wheeler Road just south of the Raleigh city limits. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., while field day events run
from 8:30 a.m. until early afternoon. The event ends with lunch, which begins at 11:30 a.m.

The field day includes presentations by faculty members in N.C. State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences on a range of topics related to turf. Presentations are scheduled on a new plant breeding
program that is designed to produce new turfgrass varieties that are better suited to North Carolina conditions as well as managing insects and diseases that damage turfgrass. Weed control presentations are also scheduled, as is a presentation on research on the paint used on athletic fields.

The Turfgrass Field Day typically draws hundreds of landscape professionals but is open as well to homeowners who are interested in turf. There is a $30 fee, which includes lunch, to attend the event.
The attendance fee rises to $35 after Aug. 3.

Online registration and other information about the field day are available at http://www.TurfFiles.ncsu.edu/FieldDay/.
