U.S. Rep. Brad Miller’s (N.C.-13) Statement on Supreme Court’s Affordable Care Act Ruling
The status quo in America has been paying twice as much for health care as other developed countries, and Americans aren’t as healthy and don’t live as long. Something had to give. Now we need to make the reform work.
Health reform was already making a difference for the people of North Carolina: http://www.healthcare.gov/law/resources/nc.html

U.S. Congressman Patrick McHenry (N.C.-10)
Dear Friends,

Today's Supreme Court decision may have largely upheld the President's healthcare law, but it is still a bad policy that needs to be repealed and replaced with patient-centered reforms that will actually lower the cost of care.

That’s why I have voted to repeal, defund, or dismantle provisions of the president’s government takeover of healthcare 30 times.

I'll continue to fight for real reform. We must protect Americans’ access to the care they need, from the doctor they choose, at a lower cost. It's time for Congress to listen to the American people. I need your input on how to make healthcare more affordable in our country.

Will you take a quick survey on healthcare reform?

Jones calls Supreme Court’s Obamacare decision “a dad day for America”

“This is a sad day for liberty in America.”

Today U.S. Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) expressed extreme disappointment with the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Obamacare. The 5-4 decision maintains the controversial individual mandate, making it lawful to tax an individual who does not buy health insurance. The House of Representatives is scheduled to consider legislation to repeal Obamacare during the week of July 9th. Congressman Jones has voted against Obamacare and supported every effort to repeal it in whole or in part, and he will continue to do so.

“This is a sad day for liberty in America. Today a slim majority of the Supreme Court decreed that the federal government can use the power of taxation to force Americans to do whatever it wants. That is outrageous,” said Jones. “In fact, in his majority opinion Chief Justice John Roberts went so far as to state that the federal government also had the power to tax ‘every taxpayer who owns a house without energy efficient windows.’ This should be a wake-up call for Americans. Their freedoms are rapidly being stripped away by an increasingly socialist government. We are headed down a dangerous path, and the only hope for reversing this course is through the ballot box in November.”

Congresswoman Ellmers Statement on Obamacare Ruling
Supreme Court Validates Obamacare as Largest Tax Increase in History

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (N.C.-2) released the following statement from her office in Washington this afternoon:

"Today the Supreme Court verified that Obamacare is a tax - one that increases the financial burdens on every American by $500 billion and will go down in history as the most significant expansion of government power over the lives of its citizens. This law has and continues to be bad policy for all Americans and future generations."

"I respect our judicial system and the legislative process by which our nation is governed but am deeply concerned in what this means for the future of our country. Today's decision by the Supreme Court sends a direct message to Congress and policy makers that we have to get back to work to repeal this law and replace it with effective, efficient reforms."

"This decision verifies that President Obama has officially passed the biggest tax increase in modern history. Furthermore, a board of 15 unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats will now remain in place to determine your healthcare while $500 billion is raided from Medicare and our seniors. I will not rest until the entire law has been repealed and patient-centered reforms are put in place."

"The American people now have a very clear choice. They can either support historic tax and spending increases, fiscal uncertainty, and unprecedented government overreach into nearly all aspects of their lives or join us in fighting to repeal this Obamacare tax and work for real solutions while taking healthcare decisions out of the hands of government bureaucrats and putting them back into the control of doctors, patients, and their families."

Congresswoman Ellmers was a registered nurse for over 21 years before being elected to Congress in 2010. She ran for office primarily in her opposition to Obamacare and its threats to the American healthcare system. Congresswoman Ellmers sits on the House Small Business Committee where she serves as Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Healthcare and Technology.

Coble says repeal Obamacare after court ruling
Based on today’s Supreme Court ruling upholding the individual mandate under the Affordable Care Act, U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (N.C.-6) said the next step is to repeal the law completely. Congressman Coble said the best way to do that will be at the ballot box this November.

“The Supreme Court, while ruling that the individual mandate is unconstitutional under the Commerce Clause of the Constitution,” Rep. Coble stated, “did say that this mandate is lawful as a tax. This verdict is a victory for those who advocate in favor of big government. The high court has now ruled in favor of the largest tax on young people in our nation’s history. Based on the feedback I have received, the majority of residents in the Sixth District are opposed to this health care plan. National polls show that most Americans feel the same way. The only recourse left now is to vote out of office those who proposed and supported Obamacare.”

Congressman Coble said he will vote to repeal Obamacare in July when it comes before the House to clear the way for common-sense reforms to our health care system. “I will support increased federal funding of state high-risk pools to guarantee affordable coverage to those with pre-existing health conditions,” Rep. Coble added, “and would be in favor of interstate health insurance to allow families to buy plans online at a lower cost than available in their state. I am in favor of allowing children to remain on family policies up to age 26 and changing the tax code to allow individuals the same tax deductions as employers when purchasing health insurance.

“I also would support allowing individuals and small employers to create associations to buy insurance at the same cheaper group rates as large employers. All of these measures would do what Obamacare can’t do, and that is make health care more accessible and more affordable for more people.”
