USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is looking for additional vendors to help support its federal nutrition assistance initiatives, including the National School Lunch Program.

AMS is setting up a vendor development team that will target U.S. small businesses and those majority-owned by women and minorities. Companies need to be certified by the U.S. Small Business Administration, complete an application for new vendors with the AMS and develop a technical proposal to open the door to eventually submitting bids.

AMS spends more than $300 million annually for meat and fish products from qualified vendors and says it wants to promote existing options for businesses owned by women, minorities, veterans and the disabled to participate in its programs.

Additional information on AMS commodity purchasing is available here.
