U.S. exports record levels of poultry

U.S. poultry exports rose 13 percent to $460 million in May, the highest value ever for the month, according to the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council.

By quantity, poultry meat exports were 336,387 metric tons in May, a 5 percent increase over a year ago. Both quantity and value of poultry meat exports set year-over-year records for the second month in a row.
May exports of broiler meat excluding chicken paws totaled 271,883 tons, up 6 percent from a year ago. Export value reached $353.8 million, up 17 percent year over year.

For the first five months of the year, U.S. poultry meat exports increased by 13 percent from a year ago to 1.66 million tons, while export value for the period climbed 24 percent to $2.22 billion, USAPEEC said, citing data from the Foreign Agricultural Service.

The top importers of broiler meat for the year to date were Mexico, Russia, Cuba and Canada, followed by Angola, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan and China.
