For Western North Carolina residents interested in competing for prize money, ribbons and bragging rights at the Mountain State Fair, now is the time to fill out entry forms.

Crafters, singers, dancers, carvers, gardeners, photographers, artists, bakers and cooks will likely find many categories of interest in the premium book - the source for rules, categories and information about entering the contests. Premium books can be found online at www.mountainfair.org/mountain-state-fair/competitions.html They also can be picked up at the WNC Ag Center in Fletcher, the WNC Farmers Market in Asheville and Cooperative Extension offices in Western N.C. counties.

Competitions are limited to North Carolina residents only, and the deadline to submit entry forms is Aug. 24. Dates when the actual entries must be dropped off are specified in the premium book. The competitions are open for youth and adults. There is also a special category for kids 5 and under.
“The Mountain State Fair competitions give residents an opportunity to showcase the talents and skills that make this region such a special place,” said Matt Buchanan, fair manager.

The N.C. Mountain State Fair runs Sept. 7-16 at the Western N.C. Ag Center in Fletcher. For more information, go to www.mountainfair.org.
