Turkey numbers rising slightly

Turkey eggs in incubators on Aug. 1 totaled 28.7 million, up 1 percent from Aug. 1, 2011, according to the USDA’s latest Turkey Hatchery report. Eggs in incubators were down 4 percent from the July 1 total of 29.8 million eggs.

Turkey poults hatched during July 2012 totaled 25.6 million, up 3 percent from July 2011. Poults hatched were up 2 percent from the June 2012 total of 25.0 million poults.

The 25.2 million net poults placed during July 2012 in the United States were up 1 percent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were up 1 percent from the June 2012 total of 24.9 million.
