Broiler eggs set down, chicks placed up

Commercial hatcheries set 192 million eggs incubators during the week ended Aug. 18, down 1 percent from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier, according to USDA’s weekly Broiler Hatchery report.

Broiler growers in the program placed 162 million chicks for meat production during the week ended Aug. 18, up 1 percent from the comparable week a year earlier.

Cumulative placements from Jan. 1 through Aug. 18 were 5.41 billion, down 3 percent from the same period a year earlier.
