Russia’s poultry and cattle output up nearly 10 percent in July

Poultry and cattle output in Russia rose a combined 9.8 percent in July compared with year-ago results, according to the state statistics service Rosstat.

Poultry output climbed 22 percent to 285,000 metric tons while meat from cattle rose 11 percent to 108,000 tons, including byproducts. Production of poultry and cattle in terms of meat, bones and byproducts climbed 8.8 percent to 5.8 million metric tons between January and July 2012 compared with levels in the first seven months of 2011, the agency reported. Rosstat also noted that meat from pork rose 16 percent to 76,300 metric tons.

In raw numbers, cattle climbed 1.2 percent to 21.4 million head at the end of July, including 9.1 million cows a 2.2-percent increase from one year ago. There also were 4.5 percent more hogs in Russia than in July 2011 at 19.6 million.
