Ingles Day at the N.C. Mountain State Fair gives fairgoers an opportunity to help their community while saving money on admission. On Wednesday, Sept. 12, visitors gain free admission with five cans of Laura Lynn brand food from Ingles. Gates open at 3 p.m. that day.

“Many North Carolinians are hurting because of the economy and have turned to food banks and food pantries for help,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “The need is certainly great and I hope we have our biggest Ingles Day in the history of the fair so we can help the MANNA Food Bank fill its shelves.”

In 2011, around 15,000 pounds of canned food were collected during Ingles Day at the Mountain State Fair. MANNA Food Bank works with more than 230 partner agencies serving 16 Western North Carolina communities.

The N.C. Mountain State Fair runs Sept. 7-16 at the WNC Ag Center. For more information, go to www.mountainfair.org or contact Ron Stamey at 828-687-1414 or ron.stamey@ncagr.gov
