The following were winners in the junior meat goat and lamb shows during the opening weekend at the N.C. Mountain State Fair:
Meat Goat Breeds -- Dorset
· Champion ewe and reserve champion ewes shown by Maggie Jones of Stokes County;
Meat Goat Breeds -- Hampshire
· Champion ewe shown by Beverly Hampton of Rowan County;
· Reserve champion ewe shown by Bethany Mackey of Madison County;
Meat Goat Breeds -- Other Purebreds
· Champion and reserve champion ewes shown by Josie Carson Correll of Rowan County;
Meat Goat Breeds -- commercial
· Champion ewe shown by Cynthia Connolly of Rowan County;
· Reserve champion ewe shown by Abigail Wilson of Rowan County;
The grand champion junior meat breed ewe selected from the above winners was the commercial ewe shown by Cynthia Connolly of Rowan County. The reserve grand champion junior meat breed ewe selected from the above winners was the Hampshire shown by Beverly Hampton of Rowan County.
Junior Market Lamb
· Grand champion junior market lamb was shown by Abigail Wilson of Rowan County;
· Reserve grand champion junior market lamb was shown by Beverly Hampton of Rowan County.
