The State Farmers Market will celebrate N.C. apples and the start of fall with Apple Day this Thursday. The event includes free apple dessert samples and recipes. Several varieties of fresh N.C. apples also will be available for purchase.
Thursday, Sept. 20 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

North Carolina is ranked seventh in apple production in the nation with more than 136 million pounds of apples grown each year.
In addition to a variety of apples, visitors to the farmers market can find locally grown sweet potatoes, peaches, tomatoes, corn, squash and more. Fall plants also are available.
