U.S. Senator Kay Hagan released the following statement today on the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Labor and Economic Analysis Division report that the state’s unemployment rate rose to 9.7 percent in August, up from 9.6 percent in July:

“Today’s jobs report serves as another reminder that we need to do more to move our economy in the right direction. Jobs continue to be my number one, number two and number three priorities. And we can’t wait another day to take action that will help put North Carolinians back to work. That's why I was disappointed that the Senate failed to pass a bill this week that would have helped our brave veterans find jobs immediately.

"As part of my continuing efforts to help put North Carolinians back to work, I’m hosting a job fair on October 5. This will be the 18th stop on my North Carolina Back to Work Jobs Tour that's aimed at putting the people of our state back to work right now. I will continue to travel across North Carolina on my jobs tour – meeting with small business owners, manufacturers, community college leaders and workforce development officers – to focus on ideas and initiatives that will create jobs and grow our state’s economy.”

North Carolina job seekers and employers with open positions are invited to participate in Senator Hagan’s North Carolina Back to Work Jobs Fair.
