The Agricultural Statistics Division brings together current and historic data relating to North Carolina agriculture. This service has been provided by the National Agricultural Statistics Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in cooperation with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services since 1919. The collection and dissemination of agricultural statistics began in 1863 and is one of the oldest activities of the USDA. There are 25 federal and state employees, and the division includes a print shop and graphic design unit.

Agricultural statistics are collected in a cooperative program by NASDA enumerators who collect statistical data from both personal on-farm and telephone surveys. The success of these cooperative relations can be attributed to the response of farmers and agribusinesses to our surveys. The information collected by individual operations is held strictly confidential and is published in state and county levels for use by farmers, economists, the general public and other government agencies. The data collected by the enumerators helps produce the annual Agricultural Statistics book and is helpful when gathering certain information at the last minute after an agricultural disaster.
