NC Forestry Bob Slocum to be buried in Cary

Robert "Bob" W. Slocum Jr, 62, of Cary, NC passed away at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh, NC on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Bob was born in Richmond, VA on October 13, 1950, son of the late Robert W. Slocum and Eleanor Waddy Slocum.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Linda Slocum; their three sons: Wes and his wife Mandy of Charlotte, NC, Matt and his wife Courtney of Raleigh, NC, and Ryan and his wife Danielle of Raleigh, NC; and his brother David H. Slocum, his wife Sandra, and their two sons Phil and Brooks of Richmond, VA.

Bob graduated from North Carolina State University with a Forestry Management Degree. He started his career as a field forester for the state of Virginia and later served as vice president for forestry policy and research of the American Forest Council in Washington, DC.

For the past 24 years, Bob served as the Executive Vice President of the North Carolina Forestry Association, where he personally directed the association's legislative efforts at both the state and federal level. Bob was an active supporter of the Wolfpack and a former board member of the North Carolina State University Natural Resource Foundation. Most recently, he served as a member of the Athletics Council at North Carolina State University and an adjunct professor for the North Carolina State College of Natural Resources.

Bob enjoyed playing golf and racquetball, hunting and fishing, but more than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

The family will receive friends on Friday Oct. 19, 2012, 6:00-8:00PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday Oct. 20, 2012, at 11:00AM at First United Methodist Church Cary, 117 South Academy Street, Cary, NC 27511.
