The Bioterrorism Act of 2002 and the Food Safety Modernization Act are federal laws that require certain types of food facilities to register certain information with the FDA. Although food facilities have been required to register under the Bioterrorism Act of 2002, the Food Safety Modernization Act now requires that these facilities provide food product category information as part of the registration process. There is now also a new biennial renewal requirement.

The NCDA&CS Food and Drug Protection Division has developed a helpful document to help food facilities, and certain farms, determine whether they need to register and to provide information on the registration process. The document can be found here.
