State Farmers Market celebrates collards Friday, Nov. 2

The State Farmers Market will host its Colossal Collard Day Friday. Fans of the tasty Southern staple can enjoy free samples of N.C. collards and hushpuppies prepared by the State Farmers Market Restaurant, along with a variety of relishes provided by market vendors. Visitors also can pick up collard recipes and purchase their own locally grown collards to take home.

Visitors will find a variety of fall produce such as apples, sweet potatoes, collard greens, spinach, kale, cabbage and other greens. A selection of summer produce is also available including squash, peppers, beans and tomatoes.

Fall is a great time for planting. Market vendors offer herbs, perennials, shrubbery, fruit trees, pansies, ornamental cabbages and more.
