Conference to focus on poultry care, handling

The American Meat Institute and the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association will host a half-day conference on poultry care and handling as part of the 2013 International Production & Processing Expo.

The conference, titled “Animal Care and Handling — Focus on Poultry,” will take place Monday, Jan. 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. in Atlanta. Registration costs $100.

Topics will include stunning systems for turkeys and chickens, factors that affect chicken and turkey quality, animal care guidelines from NCC, NTF and UEP, and handling and transport quality assurance for broilers, layers and turkeys.

Industry experts such as Kate Barger of Tyson Foods, Sarge Bilgili of Auburn University, Karen Christensen of OK Foods, Eva Pendleton of Pennsylvania State University, and Yvonne Vizzier Thaxton of the University of Arkansas will presenting during the event.
