Environmental consulting firm to expand in Cleveland County

Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that Steag Energy Services, a provider of environmental consulting and manufacturing services, will expand its operations in Cleveland County. The company plans to create 29 jobs and invest $6 million dollars over three years in Kings Mountain. The project was made possible in part by a $50,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.
“My first priority is creating jobs,” said Gov. Perdue. “Our highly-skilled workforce and top-notch business climate continues to attract companies to North Carolina. We must continue to invest in our state’s growing clean energy economy because these fast growing industries provide many potential opportunities for future growth.”
Steag Energy Services, which is part of the STEAG group, provides cost-effective engineering and consulting services that enable some of the nation’s largest energy producers to meet environmental regulations. The company specializes in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) installations, flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) systems and ammonia injection technology. Steag Energy Services currently employs more than 50 employees at its facility in Kings Mountain.
Salaries will vary by job function, but the average annual wage for the new jobs will be $43,841. The Cleveland County average annual wage is $32,760.

The support from the City of Kings Mountain, Cleveland County, and the State of North Carolina were critical in the final decision for the expansion to occur here. This has been a very successful location for our firm and we look forward to growing the operation and continued success,” said Brigitte Hartenstein, CFO of STEAG Energy Services, LLC.
The One NC Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds. These grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.
North Carolina continues to have a top-ranked business climate. Through Gov. Perdue’s JobsNOW initiative, the state works aggressively to create jobs, train and retrain its workforce, and lay the foundation for a strong and sustainable economic future.
Through the use of the One NC Fund, more than 60,000 jobs and $11 billion in investments have been created since 2001. Other partners that helped with this project include: the N.C. Department of Commerce, N.C. Community Colleges, Cleveland County, City of Kings Mountain and the Cleveland County Economic Development Partnership.
