Dear Friends,

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been e-mailing you about my approach to solving our nation’s challenges. I often talk about using the common sense conservative values many of us hold when tackling these issues. That means getting the government out of the way so small businesses can create jobs. It means cutting spending and balancing the budget so that future generations aren’t crippled by enormous amounts of debt and excessive tax rates. It also means real healthcare reform that focuses on taking care of people and decreasing costs instead of increasing taxes and boosting insurance companies.

The problems we face are difficult and they require serious solutions, but it’s not rocket science. We can balance the budget if we stop spending more than we take in. The more we borrow to finance our deficits, the more interest we pay to countries like China. I’ll continue to fight against the culture of wasteful spending in Washington.

When it comes to healthcare, simply forcing people to buy health insurance won’t solve our problems. If we focus on making healthcare more affordable, we’ll increase access to care and strengthen critical programs like Medicare.

Of course, improving our economy remains our number one priority. As Ronald Reagan once said: “the best social program is a job.” By unleashing the innovation and ingenuity of American small businesses, we can get people back to work and solve the big issues facing our nation. That’s why I worked to pass legislation that helps entrepreneurs and start ups by giving them access to the capital they need to grow and create jobs.

I’ll continue to push for common sense solutions to the problems facing our country. I hope you’ll continue to send me your thoughts and ideas as well.

God Bless,

Patrick McHenry
Member of Congress
